SAOSO Annual Handbook

The SAOSO Annual Handbook

The SAOSO Annual Handbook

SAOSO is recognized and mandated by the South African Government as the official organization of the organic agriculture sector as determined by the FRIDGE Study. This was done in partnership with the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF), the Department of Trade and Industry (Dti), Rural Development and Land Reform (DRDLR) and Department of Cooperative Governance and the Department of Traditional Affairs (CoGTA). The awareness of organics brought a need for assurance and quality management. As organic agriculture in South Africa enters the mainstream economy, it has to comply with and conform to its rules of engagement.

The SAOSO ESSENTIALS Covers the areas of general organic management, crop production (including plant breeding), animal production (including beekeeping), wine making, wild collection, processing and handling, labelling and marking, verification and certification, and provide farmers with an annual directory with preferred service and product providers. SAOSO Essentials is distributed to all organic farmers throughout South Africa, organic producers, agriculture colleges, government, organic organizations, AFASA members and SAOSO members.
